History and Geography of Chikmagalur 

Chikmagalur in Kannada language means “younger daughter’s town.” According to mythology, King Rukmangada sent the town as a dowry to his younger daughter, hence the name. The town is famous for its religious monuments. One of the most important moments in Chikmagalur’s history was the cultivation of the nation’s first harvest of coffee in the Baba Budan Giri Hills in 1670 A.D.

Chikmagalur is located in the Malenadu region of Karnataka in the Mullayanagiri foothills. Located 1,090 m above sea level, it is the third-highest city in Karnataka in terms of elevation.
